What is BYC?
Let’s break it down.

Ballet, Yoga and Contemporary—open level.
No syllabus. No pressure to “keep up.”

These are refinement classes.
You come in thinking:
“How can I improve my pirouette… my shoulder stand?”
Not by forcing it—by making it feel easier, cleaner, and more sustainable.

Ballet is still a real ballet class—barre, then centre—
but the work is more technique-driven.
We’re building the mechanics behind the steps:
how to truly engage the inner thighs,
how to place the ribs and pelvis,
how to coordinate the arms so they actually support you—
so your turns stabilize, and your jumps feel lighter.

Contemporary is less about long choreography
and more about training your movement vocabulary.
Drills that make you efficient and fearless:
slides, rolls, transitions, floor pathways, leaps—
so your body knows what to do, even when the movement gets unpredictable.

And then there’s yoga—the class that connects it all.
You, your mat, and a focus on strength, flexibility, recovery and deep body awareness.
But this is yoga for dancers—so there’s a twist:
there’s music, there’s counting.
You learn to let rhythm guide you
without losing alignment or control.

Because these three forms strengthen each other.
Ballet’s structure gives you stability—especially in turns and inversions.
Contemporary’s release gives you freedom—through the hips, neck, and spine—so pliés get deeper, and lines get fuller.
Yoga builds the foundation: mobility, control, and recovery—designed for dancers.

And when it clicks, you feel it:
movement without restraint.
A body that works with you—not against you.

Because aging is real.
Pain is real.
Injury is real.

So we go back to the basics—done properly.

• Missing one or two sessions is manageable, but participants must catch up with the set material.

Whether you are a complete beginner (never danced in your entire life), or a seasoned and current dancer, we have the class for you. We present to you the Dancer’s Ground, a program for you to learn, grow, and improve. Finding your voice and expression through dance. We will help you refine your technique, and (re)discover the beauty and essence of dance.

On top of learning a choreography that build progressively throughout the 12 weeks, each class will combine one other element—ballet, yoga or contemporary. Ballet, because it’s the foundation of all dance; Yoga, because we all need to stretch; Contemporary, because by learning to release and flow we can discover our inner rhythm.

What a year it has been… Join us for a session of annual reflection, as we recall the highs and lows of 2024, followed by another session of vision boarding, as we set ourselves up to embrace the year to come.

Since both sessions require much brain power to remember and recall moments (of much distant past), refreshments will be provided to keep the brain nourished.

Details of both sessions as followed:

🌻 Annual Reflection
📅 Date: 1st December, Sunday
⏰ Time: 2pm - 4:30pm
📝 This session will be a guided journaling session. All prompts and journal print outs will be provided. Participants only have to bring their phone with their calendar/photo album, which will help them to look at photos/schedule to reflect on the year. Participants can also bring their journal and stationaries.

🌻 Vision Boarding
📅 Date: 8th December, Sunday
⏰ Time: 2pm - 4.30pm
📝 This session will be a guided vision boarding session, where we brainstorm goals and vibes for 2025. Prompts will be provided to help everyone visualize their 2025, covering things like relationships, work, finance, health, passion, etc. The final product will be a printed A4 vision board (which we will print) that everyone can stick in their notebook or journal to reflect on in 2025. For this session, participants are asked to bring their laptop/tablet so that they can work on their vision board.

Our first training with Sherlyn started in August 2023, and we couldn’t be prouder of her progress in ballet and pointe! Read her journey👇

When did you first start ballet, and what made you return?
“I started ballet when I was 7 and continued until I was 18. I restarted at 36. Ballet has always been my core, but I was taught to believe that dance shouldn’t be made out of career. So I spent my 20s and 30s pursuing what I thought I ‘should’ do, instead of what I really wanted.”

How has adult ballet been for you? What challenges have you faced?
“It’s been challenging! I remember I struggled with a lot of pain—muscle aches and foot pain—and even had some injuries but have since been stabilized now after 1 year+. The progress has been tremendous. I went from barely balancing on pointe to doing some pointe work at the center.”

Lastly, what’s your dream for ballet?
“I want to become a ballet teacher who teaches with empathy, encouraging individuality rather than fitting into the traditional mold of how ballet should be. As for my own progress, I want to be able to dance freely on pointe at the center.”
